Somebody must have died. Look out
At all those shining eyes;
But what have they to cry about
When all they see are lies?
Outside, tonight, some life will end
And nobody will know.
There’s so much pain that’s not pretend.
Why shed tears for a show?
Why don’t these gleaming eyes lament
The souls that pass tonight
The stroke, the pills, the accident,
The anguish out of sight?
Why cry for pain that disappears
After the credits roll?
It hurts too much to spend their tears
On an actor with a soul.
